Sawatdi Thai Restaurant

About

Sawatdi is situated opposite the tourist information office in the heart of St Peter Port. Experience traditional Thai food at its best using only fresh ingredients.  We are open 7 days a week lunch served from midday till 2.30pm and dinner 6.00pm till 11.00pm.

Sawatdi is one of the Thai words best known to foreigners, every foreign visitor to Thailand has heard it spoken, and perhaps has seen it printed too. Sawatdi means welcome in Thai, it also means goodness, beauty and prosperity. It is a standard expression of greeting for Thai people of all classes and all walks of life.

In a typical Thai meal, you will taste a wide range of herbs, basil, balsam, sweet balsam, lime, sweet lime, kaffer lime, coriander, shallots, garlic, mint, spring onions, lemon grass, ginger and of course fresh chillies. Thai food has been influenced by the cuisine of China and India but has evolved a distinctive style which is continually being refreshed with new ideas. For example, Thai curries are not strictly speaking curries in the Indian sense. Their major ingredients are fresh herbs rather than dry spices. They are also lighter, relying on coconut derivatives rather than dairy products.

Should you come to Sawatdi Thai Restaurant we hope you enjoyed your meal, your pleasure is always our goal and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Sawatdi has an extensive takeaway menu to delight your taste buds. Our Thai takeaway service is available from 6pm to 9pm 7 days a week.
